I just wanna share this from a personal experience from this place years ago. Around 2016 I wanted to apply to the ECE course at the Springhill campus; I am an adult with autism (Pervasive Developmental Disorder Otherwise Not Specified) so when I applied I had to write an exam. Basically if you had an Individualized Program Plan in school they have you write it, to me which wasn’t fair because I know classmates of mine got in but they didn’t have to write tests either way I went ahead and did it anyway because I wanted to become an educator. I can’t really remember if they gave me anything to study for but I knew when I went in to write it it was such BS; this was stuff that was supposed to be taught to me in high school but most of it I never learned because of my IPP so I didn’t know a big chunk of the test I had a major panic attack from it all. Of course I didn’t pass which meant I didn’t get into the program which really affected my self esteem, I went through enough crap in high school from teachers saying I’m not smart enough to go to college now I have to be tested to see if I’m a good candidate for their program?! Forget that, for a school that offers a program that teaches about inclusion this isn’t very inclusive at all! To anyone out there who has any learning disabilities don’t bother applying here, there are much better colleges that offer ECE programs. I’m just very happy that I chose a different school path one where I was able to be myself and not be excluded from anything and was offered the right necessities to help me complete my course. I’ve been to two colleges got both my level 1 and 2 ECE diploma, got a good job and working my way up to being assistant director at our centre, this was a NO THANKS to everyone at NSCC. I’m glad I am thriving in my career and I didn’t need this school to test me like a lab rat, I hope I have inspired others to not feel guilty about who they are regardless of their disabilities, thank you for the time to hear my story.

Taking the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course at NSCC has been a frustrating experience. Although the course is advertised as free, it feels like a hidden cost because the system isn't helpful to students. It seems that the main goal is to keep students enrolled as long as possible, because the program is funded by the government. This makes it more about business than actual learning.

The course was supposed to be quick, with the opportunity to join the CLP6 level soon, but instead, students are kept in the program for five to six terms—sometimes up to two years—to complete just two levels. This extended period feels unnecessary and inefficient, and it can be discouraging for those who want to move on to other studies quickly. It often feels like a way to maximize government funding rather than a genuine effort to support student progress.

In summary, the EAP course at NSCC has been more about the institution's financial interests than about truly helping students improve their English skills for academic purposes. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this course.

And all of the staff members and teachers are wonderful, kind, helpful and caring.

Emailing them is easy with communication frequently.

They keep you informed and if you have any issue with something they will sort it out quickly and clearly with you. Absolutely wonderful experience. Still in program just wanted to put my experience here.

The school is clean. The service is a hit or miss. My friend (who's a recent graduate) called NSCC to inquire if they can continue doing their taxes this year (as they did before). They were quick to tell my friend they're not a student anymore so they can't do anything for them, and they were rude and dismissive about it.

I was trying to apply and wanted to speak to an advisor or just ask general questions and these complete morons are so disorganized that they cannot answer any specific question, all they do is copy and paste from the course description to your email. I will happily take my 20000$ elsewhere

Bad experience. Instructors and structure are ok but if you need anything from any office or student services they treat you like garbage. They just care about your money. It doesn't worth the cost for international students.

Really enjoyed my time there. Department heads are usually great, and the curriculum is updated regularly. The regular instructors are wonderful and the staff friendly and helpful. Temporary teachers can be a bit hit-or-miss in terms of their people skills. Perhaps it's hard to get people with industry knowledge AND appropriate teaching skills.
The institution is solid in its commitment to diversity, but that doesn't always trickle down to the temporary instructors.

Dear NSCC Admissions Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my deep concern about the prolonged and inefficient admissions process I have experienced. I submitted my application close to five months ago and have yet to receive an offer letter, despite numerous inquiries.

Moreover, the recent implementation of new policies, particularly those affecting individuals applying for diplomas and their spouses, has added to the frustration. The stringent timelines, such as the requirement to obtain a study permit before 2nd August or risk losing the non-refundable tuition deposit of 1000 CAD, pose a significant challenge, especially for applicants in countries like Ghana anf Nigeria where permit processing times vary and can extend beyond this deadline.

It's disheartening to witness the collective dissatisfaction within our WhatsApp and Telegram group, with many expressing a lack of interest in pursuing their educational journey at NSCC due to these issues. I implore the admissions team to address these concerns promptly, ensuring a more efficient and compassionate approach to the application and admission processes.
