I just went for a quick lunch and the owner was very friendly to offer me a weekend menu. Nice and quiet place to stay in a small town.

The Imperial Hunter Hotel is forever etched in my memory.. It was 1956 or so - I was about 10 years old and the family was driving from Port Alberni on Vancouver Island to visit my father's relatives in Swift Current Sask.. We had planned to stop in Calgary but hadn't taken the Stampede into account - Motel after motel with "No Vacancy" signs. Everything was booked solid ... Mom and dad in the front seat and my brother and I huddled in the back .. It was getting dark and we were getting desperate.. Maybe it was the huge "Hotel" sign on the roof beckoning weary travels on the Trans Canada (was that sign on the roof in 1956?) that got our attention. We parked in front of the hotel, walked into the bar and were greeted by the bartender - They had a room!!! But what really got my attention was the "Giant" (at least through a child's eye) stuffed sturgeon, worn and tattered, mounted over the bar.. I was mesmerized .. The room as I recall was bare bones, an iron bed with a sink in the room and washroom down the hall. Flash forward to 2019 (more then 100 years since the fish was caught and stuffed) - My wife and I are driving from Kingston On. to our new home in Victoria.. I had to check out Bassano to see if the hotel still stood and if so was the sturgeon that made such a huge impression on me as a child still residing in the bar... It was... and to be honest it looked to be in better shape then I remember .. but a bit smaller seen through an adult's eye though..

This place has great personality. Its not your average cookie cutter hotel. It has no elevator so perhaps not for anyone with certain conditions where climbing stairs is an issue. But I had my own bathroom, the staff were awesome and probably has the most happenin' tavern in town. Glad I didn't stay at the other hotel. Prices were definitely reasonable too. Had a blast here.

Over priced drinks, so no on the bar..sorry $7 for a beer is steep, and washing dishes by hand is a huge no . So shocked a health inspector has not shut you down. do not recommend sleeping in the hotel
unless you like the sound of a loud train every 20 mins and dirty rooms. The showers are disgusting, the bedding needs washing and my god please check the toilet it probably still has piss on it from the last guest. Disgusting However the staff are pretty friendly

This is one of those old large small town hotels with the bar and cafe on the main floor and rooms above. The guest rooms have all been renovated and have excellent air conditioner/heat units. The furnishing are basic but there was a fridge, microwave and coffee maker in our room. The TV's are small flat screens and one thing which did impress me was the quality of the towels in the bathroom. The bathroom was also very large and the bed was very comfortable. This is a very large hotel for such a small town and is right in the centre of this small town. The price is half the cost of the rest of the accommodations in the town!||||Make sure you ask for a room facing the streets as the rooms on the back side face the railroad and there are quite a few loud trains during the night. Also avoid room 203, the one we had, as birds nest in the furnace pipes and run back and forth along these pipes. Kept us awake after 4 AM!

We were staying overnight to get some rest before driving home but decided against it. Loud train frequently coming by every 20 minutes (our room was facing the tracks), kept finding dead bugs all over the room. Dirty, dust everywhere, toilet paper roll was almost empty when we arrived and no extras in room. There is no actual lobby just dive bar I'm assuming you would have to get supplies from. Our lamp did not even have a lamp shade on it. Bed looked used like someone was on it or not made, with holes and stain. Red droplet marks on bathroom floor, maybe blood?!?! Utterly horrible, so we left during the night.

I guess the worst Hotel or motel. Receptionist didn’t know how to welcome guests, I can say non professional. Upon entering, we could smell weed. Most important thing, they ask for $250 damage deposit, i was like seriously. If you are taking $40-$50 bucks for staying a night and damage deposit that much. Lastly, we just walked out
