Alair Homes (St. Albert) did a kitchen and living room renovation for us. The quality of their work was excellent, as were the vendors they used to provide supplies (e.g. cabinets, tiles, sink, etc.). Zach, Kara, and Cody were responsive and easy to communicate with; flexible as we made some scope modifications along the way; and always seemed to have our best interest in mind. We genuinely enjoyed working with them, and felt supported by them. The project was finished within the budget we expected, and on time, and we love the results.

My husband and I worked with Alair on an insurance rebuild of our old home. We had a generally good experience through the construction process. The quality of the work was good and we had a great experience with our project manager, who has since moved on from Alair.

Unfortunately, Alair did not communicate with us about major budget overages. Several months after selling the house and after our insurance rebuild deadline, we were informed that the project had run significantly over budget and that lot grading code issues had been missed. Alair was aware of these issues for some time before informing us, leaving us with no opportunity to seek insurance compensation or to manage the costs via the sale of the home.

To their credit, Alair did agree to cover a small portion of these costs, but we still ended up out of pocket in the five figures.

We would strongly caution anyone considering working with Alair to ask hard questions about budget management and client communication at the beginning of the process to ensure they do not get into a similar situation.

Sometimes, the builders are not up to the challenge of building a home.
