We hired Renopro Island to drywall a renovated room/kitchen/bathroom and are so pleased with the results. Best of all, the owner is so great to work with, as he scheduled us in as soon as possible and got the job done right away. Thanks for a job well done, and I look forward to the upcoming painting job we continued to hire you on!

Ty and his crew did an amazing job of a complete bathroom reno. They made my vision come alive. Looks amazing. The quality of workmanship and the professionalism were notable. They were respectful and responsive, cleaning up after a days work. Ty was responsive when I needed to talk with him. All in all, went very well.

I have had Ty and his crew back a few times for various renovations. His team has always been great to work with. On time, great pricing and amazing communication skills. I think a lot of contractors can really learn from these guys.
Thanks again for all the hard work.

I have been told that this review is no longer visible. It is my hope that by reposting it will help consumers make informed choices.

I like Ty as a person, but my experience differed from many reviews I’ve seen. After hearing from several others with similar stories, I feel it’s important to share what I wish I’d known. We're in a small town. Most people won't share poor reviews in fear of retaliation, but it is important that you know what you need to know.

Ty is personable and professional at first glance. He’ll tell you about his family’s years in the business, drive a branded car, and share pictures of projects. I wish I’d spoken to those homeowners first—I’d have learned that while the work might turn out well, the process can be stressful due to disorganization and missed timelines. Renovations are hard enough without these issues.

While he knows the trade, he now focuses on office and sales. His brother handles most of the on-site work. Ask to meet him too. You won’t see much of Ty once the deposit is paid.

Check References Thoroughly: It's a small town. Talk to previous clients, inspectors, and subcontractors about Ty’s organization, follow-through, and reliability. Something to know is subcontractors can place liens on your home if the contractor doesn't pay them. You should hold back 10% of fees as protection. More details on lien laws can be found here: https://bccassn.com/project-delivery/builders-lien/

Ty asks for 50% upfront to cover materials and trades. While legal, most contractors in the valley do not require this. I have reviewed others that you could also consider.

Ty’s contract may contained errors and references to consumer protection that did not apply. Contact Consumer Protection BC to confirm your rights and obligations. They will happily look over your contract. https://www.consumerprotectionbc.ca/2024/10/doing-a-reno-dont-forget-these-contract-details/

Ty may claim a permit isn’t needed—it’s your responsibility to verify this with your municipality. While it seems a pain, renovators are not certified. Permits ensure inspections catch structural or safety issues, and without them, your insurance might not cover future problems. Start here: www.bchousing.org/licensing-consumer-services/building-permits.

Get Ty to provide clear, written plans before work begins. This prevents delays, confusion, and finger-pointing between tradespeople and contractors. Plans ensure accountability and save you from making on the fly decisions for sub trades you’re paying him to manage.

If Ty is digging, ensure he has a “Dial Before You Dig” certificate to avoid dangerous accidents. You can start the process here: BC1C.

Ty may offer you discounted windows. Buyer beware. Ensure in advance they meet BC’s safety and energy standards. Look for permanent stickers and request certification. More info here: Window Standards. Ask for UValues, which must be below 1.61 in BC.

I want to clarify that I actually like Ty. The issue is not his likeability, but rather his ability to organize and manage a contract. For small, straightforward jobs, he might be a good choice, but for larger projects, consider his organizational capacity. If issues arise, the Better Business Bureau can mediate disputes. While the process is slow and takes effort, Ty did respond and will eventually make things right.

I rarely give reviews but felt that Ty and crew at RenoPro Island were certainly deserving of one. During these busy times in the construction industry, it is difficult to find a company who will provide you the courtesy of a return call. My first and subsequent calls to Ty were always returned immediately. After living in the Comox Valley for over 30 years, this was certainly a breath of fresh air in regards to the construction industry. I found them to be extremely knowledgeable, skillful and professional. Every step of the renovation was explained with clarity. We had to reschedule several times, and found them to be most accommodating. It is evident the company is a great success as they are based on integrity and reliability. I would highly recommend RenoPro. Thank you Ty and team for your help with our house repair, I am very grateful.

Ty and his crew performed a window installation and a door adjustment for us. It was a challenge beyond the skills of my partner and I, so we decided to bring in a professional. The installation of our new window looks great! I look forward to having more windows completed by his team soon. He is an honest and down to earth guy and really wants to do his best for the client. He provided me some advice (which I gladly took) about another project. One of the things I really respect about him is that if he cant do the job (electrical work for instance) he will recommend you to another quality skilled person. I am glad to have Ty in my back pocket for when I need more work done!

Thanks Ty.

Ty is a standup guy , in this crazy world, it's hard to know who to trust, especially when it comes to contractors , Ty Theodore came through for me when I needed help most ; His only interest in my experience is doing an amazing job at a fair price .. Sure there are a lots of contractors out there that will do a job for you, but the question is will they do it right the first time ? I guarantee that Ty is an amazing friendly guy that will get the job done, right the first time .. That's why I happily recommend Ty if you have renovations .. Trust me, you won't regret it 😉
